Briar Student Takes Project Happy To Next Level

News

Briar Middle School sixth-grader Marianna Bollini has become a master of the gift box. She has packaged and wrapped some 70 gift boxes for the
Project Happy campaign to get gifts to kids in need this holiday season.

While Perkins Schools have a campaign to get hundreds of gifts to kids, 12-year-old Marianna has launched her own campaign to raise money from outside the schools.

“I’m taking something we do here and expanding it into the community,” Marianna said.

So far she has generated about $1,100 via a web page created by her mother, Liz. With the money, Marianna goes shopping and buys all sorts of goodies to put inside the gift boxes. Her favorite items, she says, are lip gloss, Ty toys, and slime. Other stuff recipients might find includes candy, notebooks, fancy pencils, small games, hats, and gloves. “I’m very excited about it,” said Marianna of the project. “It makes me feel so good.”

Marianna is the 2018-19 Erie County Fair Junior Miss. She said the honor of being chosen as Junior Miss motivated her to make it her mission to help out in the community. Marianna will continue to accept donations for her campaign through Friday, Dec. 14.
